While I have received much appreciation for my 4 years in the military service, I am one who is appreciative of what the service did for me.
I got to spend three years in Europe with the US Air Force during the early 50’s. If there was ever appreciation time, that was it.
The dollar to the German mark was 4.20. Gasoline was $.15 a gallon. Yes, the decimal point is correctly placed. The rest and recreation centers in Garmisch were $.75 cents a night and you could eat out in one of Wiesbaden’s best restaurants for $1.50.
I think many veterans feel appreciative and thankful of acquiring many skills that lasted a lifetime while they were serving their country.
