Thank you card received from Laura Bush, from the White House
This is just a note to let you know how much my church Women’s Association are enjoying your book. I donated for about 30 books last Fall and gave to members as a favor at our Christmas dinner. Since then I have heard from many women how much your book and thoughts have helped them.
“My wife and I distributed your book to several people we know. I gave one copy to my friend’s 104 year-old mother. Thanks for One Day at a Time.”
A couple of weeks ago I had calls on the same day from two mothers whose sons were talking about suicide. Both mothers did the right thing and help was received. As one mother sat in my office, I called a pastor in Erie to make immediate contact with her son. Then we talked about her circumstances and where her support came from. I gave her two copies of your book of prayers and what she said next surprised me:
‘You gave me a copy of these prayers last winter in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. I have used it regularly to find help in God. And because of the book, I knew I could come to this church for help. Since I already have a book, I don’t need another.’ My response was: ‘Here are two more to pass on. You know what a help they are.’
(Now Dick, I honestly have no recollection of giving your book to her in the Wal-Mart parking lot, but regardless, it was again an instrument of God’s support. Thanks again.)
I want you to know I bought 20 books. I gave them to all my children, grandchildren, other relatives and my favorite friends. Everyone was pleased. The also liked the large print.
We are sending copies of One Day at a Time to troops stationed overseas. The book that you composed is really inspirational and I think the troops will enjoy it.
I am a Disaster Chaplain working in Biloxi, MS. I have been using your book as devotions with some of our construction crews. They like them, simple.
